I'm going to mix it up a bit this evening. Let's open with the big band. Green Onions was a hit for Booker T. & the M.G.'s but here it's performed by Harry James and company. If you look closely you'll see that's Buddy Rich on drums.
And now that we've had some soul as interpreted by a big band, let's have some Dylan as interpreted by The Band. This is an unplugged version of When I Paint My Masterpiece. Don't go crazy trying to match names with instruments. Most of the members of The Band are multi-instrumentalists.
And we'll close with some rock'n'roll. This is John Hiatt and the Goners on Riding With the King. Have a good weekend.

Fantastic arrangement! (I'm still on Harry James.) What is that wonderful instrument that sounds like a cross between a sax and a clarinet (but kinda looks like a clarinet)? Is there a bass clarinet? And yes, I saw Buddy, and Ricky Ricardo on keyboards. ;-)
Do you have a year for that? I hear some Mancini influence in there, although maybe it would be more correct to say that I hear James in Mancini. And then again: it ain't necessarily so ...
Real style.
The Harry James performance was in 1965. And there are numerous members of the clarinet family though you won't see many of those in common use. For future reference, there is also a soprano saxophone which you might run across from time to time.
That is the first time I've ever heard this version. I only remember the Booker T and the Green Onions version. Cool. It is a great arrangement.
I apologize. I'm never good with band names or song titles.
No problem. I knew what you meant.
Thanks for this - Harry James' Green Onions was simply e'ffn WOW!
You got a throwdown, pogge: Cathie
