Kady O'Malley is live-blogging Stephen Harper's visit to the Governor General. While standing outside Rideau Hall she writes:
... a tip to those organizing nonpartisan grassroots demonstrations: most of us who work on the Hill can recognize Conservative staffers - even when they’re all decked out like ordinary Canadians.

Honestly, they have no shame. I don't think I ever witness such rampant dishonesty from a Canadian political party ever before. It's as if lying and manipulating are prerequisites for joining the CPC.
Kady says that Harper's trip to Woodstock (opening of an auto plant) has been cancelled.
So developments are developing, I guess. This is a long visit to teh GG.
Way to show how much the economy matters PMSH. I'm only going if I get my way whaaaaa...
(Sorry about they typos in my first comment. Obviously, I needed more coffee.)
Oh, we are friends to they tpyos here, BY. ;-)
Here. Have a cup of coffee, and a piece of pogge's birthday cake, handmade by PLG.
I heard from the time fillers on CBC this morning when the visit started that if Harper cancelled the Woodstock visit, there'd be an answer one way or another, not an "I'll take it under advisement and get back to you".
Oh, the gossip. Did the political junkies ever think there'd be an aftershock to the election that was even stronger than the original go-around? I'm surprised no one has asked the professionals what the 'book' on this is.
Kady says that a podium has appeared.
According to comments at KO'M's, parliament has been prorogued. What a horrible precedent to set.
GG approves PM's request to suspend Parliament: CTV
Heh. Pat Martin is making a speech in the Commons about heads having rolled over bad royal decisions like this. *grin*
We'll see how long the prorogation will be.
I want to hear a statement from the GG but, if this is unconditional, it is the one outcome that is totally unacceptable to me.
Y'know, normally Pat Martin gets my back up, but he is making a barn-burner of a speech right now. He just lit into the bigotry of anti-Quebec rhetoric of the last week -- really well done.
Holy! Martin just went after Flanagan -- exploit the economic crisis to destroy your enemies. And then he threw in the Shock Doctrine.
I is gonna have to revise opinion of Pat Martin.
According to the CTV story I posted above, it's 'til the end of January. IOW, the Commons will resume just in time for Flaherty's budget.
Well, no one has prorogued anything yet, because debate in the Commons continues.
Pat Martin rubs a lot of people the wrong way but he is also the one MP you can always count on to go to bat for you if you have a problem. You don't always like how does things but you have to like that he actually gives a damn. If I had a problem, I'd crawl on my hands and knees to Martin's office before I'd pick up the phone and call Vic Toews'.
I wonder what effect the Conservatives' criticizing the Bloc will have on today"s Quebec election?
A week ago, before the crisis, the Liberals were at 44%, and the PQ at 36% in the polls.
