Friday night

Regular Friday night visitors will have noticed that in recent weeks I've changed things up a bit. I've gotten away from strictly blues and the first tune in the post has been chosen for reasons that have more to do with what's in the news. Actually it's usually a tune that has been an earworm for me at some point in the week due to something I've read. Sometimes the only way I can get rid of an earworm is to find the song and listen to it all the way through.

This week it's in response to reading more than one Liberal supporter who has expressed a fervent hope that fellow Liberals will get past the idea that all they need do is find that one special leader who can put the whole party on his shoulders and carry it back to the promised land. I'm not a Liberal party member but I agree. What appears to be an increasing fixation on the leaders without looking further at the whole party and what it stands for — and what it would do with power if successful — isn't good for the party or the country in the long run. I'd rather see elections that are more about policy and less about personality.

And the earworm? Here's Tina Turner with We Don't Need Another Hero.

And now the part that's just for fun (and probably entirely predictable). This performance is post-Ike but still quite a few years old. It's one of those cases where the cover may be better known than the original. This is Proud Mary.

Here's a (silly, I know) idea - how about we start a friendly, good-natured, "battle of the bands" on Friday nights? Would be fun for all of us, a nice break from the nitty gritty reality of dealing with them conservative/republican/neocon/theocon *incompetents* ...

I'm suggesting this in light of Impolitic's "retort" to both yours and mine last Friday night music themes ;-)

Anyways - have a great week-end, ya'll ;-)

How would the winner be decided? 'Sides, at this point I'm just as likely to offer up Leo Kottke. Or Count Basie. And on occasion I'll still go back to blues.

Good point about the obsession with individual leaders. I think we tend to forget that in we're electing a Prime Minister, not a President, and that those are two quite different things.

Pogge: No winners - just for fun ;-)

I've been posting music every Friday night for over two years now (except for a brief interlude last year following my unfortunate disagreement with an SUV). I certainly wasn't planning on stopping any time soon. The more the merrier.

Aye, aye Capt'n! ;-)

I've been promoted!
