So who else thinks we might see a Draft Jim Webb movement? (If you'd rather watch than read, there's a YouTube video of the speech.) Ian Welsh has an interesting post on Webb.

It looks like Jim Webb just became the leading contender to be selected as the Vice Presidential running mate of whoever wins the Democratic nomination. His military experience would complement all of the top candidates.
Ian Welsh's point about people's notions of "conservative" and "right" vs. "liberal" in the states being based largely on social signifiers rather than on actual policy positions is interesting. It explains why people like Obama can be seen as "liberal" when they seem to have few if any liberal or even centrist policy positions. And it makes sense, given that the media tends to consistently emphasize that kind of presentation-based signal and strongly resist conveying much information about policy.
I agree with you, PLG (and Ian) - I have never really understood what the left/right thing was anyway.
Someone once explained to me what an "offside" was in soccor. It depends upon where the ball is and where everyone else is on the field.
So it is that "socialists" internationally are warmongers .. and must be invaded to keep the world free for the right wing.
- or was it the left wing Liberals that marginalized Sheila Copps and ignored Martha Hall Findlay, even if the CPC are a bunch of right wing woman haters?
All too much for this little mind of mine - reality and appearences are sometimes all too close.
