Really quick, you guys.
What is it? The New Government of Canada? The New Canadian Government? Canada's New Government? (Look to the blue box on the right. Or snap to attention at this story.)
I'm an editor. I gotta know soon what the correct form of address for our elders and betters elected representatives is.
And I'm thinking letterhead, business cards, all that sort of stuff. Etiquette, y'know? We've got to get this right.
Even more serious: the Chicago Manual of Style and the Editors Association of Canada are waiting to hear from Ottawa -- or maybe just from Canadians. In other words: you. We can't get our footnotes and bibliographies right without a general decision.
So. What is it? This new ... thing ... we've got: what do we call it?

Hey! You!
Och, Stephen. pogge won't let me use smileys. Or else I'd send you one. *wink*
Heh. Since it's extremely unlikely that the "Canada's New Government" schtick will outlive December, I think you could get away with ignoring it entirely: "What's that you say? I must have missed that memo. Is 'labour' still spelled with a 'u'?"
I vote for "Canada's Brand Shiny New Goverment of Newness."
So does this mean that the url extension will be changed?
ngc.ca
cng.ca
ncg.ca
I would love to know exactly how many of my hard earned tax dollars are being used for all the new graphic design and printing that are being generated by this ridiculous exercise.
I notice that the accountability webpage that is linked in the blue box uses government of canada multiple times within the text.
There's a emergency youth at risk safehouse here that can no longer stay open due to a funding shortfall.
I guess new letterhead and graphics comes ahead of the safety of our youth.

"Those dorks. No, the other ones."
Canada's Neo Government works well for me.
That bunch of SCRACheads? Or better yet, the opposition party formerly known as The New Government of Canada.
I wish that the Government of Canada, new, current or old, would get over politicking and just get on with governing. Supposedly it is The Government of Canada, not a Conservative Party minority looking for a majority. Just dreaming ...
'I vote for "Canada's Brand Shiny New Government of Newness." '
May I use this, IP? I promise to credit you.
Canada's Neo Government is good too, and "the opposition party formerly known as ..." is a consummation devoutly to be wished.
If they have to have delusions of grandeur, it would be nice if the delusions weren't so tacky and petty, wouldn't it?
But delusions have to be grandiose skdadl else what's a heaven for?
Ooh, I've got one!
"The Brand Spanking New Canada Government"
and in French we'll call it
"Le Gouvernement Flambant Neuf du Canada"
So with all of that spanking and flaming going on, it'll be pretty accurate in the end.
Ooh! A spanking! A spanking!
Down, people, down. Please note that I am just quoting. See Monty Python, Holy Grail (1975).
So who's up for some killer bunnies?
How about a shwubbewy?
Gweat Aunty Buwtha, you aw a wascal. ;-)
Exactly why is our Federal Government nain site shilling for the Cons? Even the Liberals didn't do this crap.
"New Government" indeed.
Here's to the new boss, same as the old boss. Only dumber and meaner.
