From Yahoo News:
A blueprint for trying to start a war between the United States and Iran was among a "huge treasure" of documents found in the hideout of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Iraqi officials said Thursday. The document, purporting to reflect al-Qaida policy and its cooperation with groups loyal to ousted President Saddam Hussein, also appear to show that the insurgency in Iraq was weakening.
...
According to the summary, insurgents were being weakened by operations against them and by their failure to attract recruits. To give new impetus to the insurgency, they would have to change tactics, it added."We mean specifically attempting to escalate the tension between America and Iran, and American and the Shiite in Iraq," it quoted the documents as saying, especially among moderate followers of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the most influential Shiite cleric in Iraq.
Emphasis mine.
From The Raw Story:
Current military and former intelligence officials remain concerned about a US-led strike on Iran, despite the recent appearance of diplomacy on the part of the US State Department and the offer of an incentives package to Iran.Officials point to new developments, such as a recent meeting in Rome between an Iranian arms dealer and controversial neoconservative Michael Ledeen and the March creation of the Iranian directorate inside the Pentagon, as examples of recent events similar to the lead up with war in Iraq.
Attaboy, George. Give the terrorists exactly what they want. It's been working so well.
(Aside: This of course assumes that the documents attributed to al-Zarqawi are anything more than forgeries planted for propaganda purposes. There have been a lot of interesting documents that have been "discovered" in Iraq over the last few years that cause headlines one day and then seem to disappear the next.)

U.S. is being played like a violin.
Hmmmmm......
Does this new development indicate that the WHIG-assisted 'Zarqawi Power Hour' has not been officially cancelled?
.
Not only is it still running, but there's been a Patrick Duffy 'dream' moment.
In the latest episode, Zarqawi's painstaking notes reveal that Amurica is too strong, the Iraqi forces too well trained, and the insurgency is too exhausted. The deadenders really are on the run.
What a plot twist - Bushco was right all along!
[aside] pogge, that link to Raw Story is not working. [/aside]
Even that extract you've quoted, though, is giving me an odd déja vu experience. Michael Ledeen ... Rome ... suspect document ... Heavens! That's more than déja vu -- that's whiplash!
I wonder who is playing which violin, I do.
Al Zarqawi wasn't as important as bush II says. This big crackdown in Baghdad, this recent mass destruction of his organization, ... bush II's "heroic" surprise 5 hour visit to the Green Zone fortress, .... all of this is further propaganda.
It has all successfully blasted the irrefutable evidence of the marine atrocities in Haditha off the front pages.
And yes, "controversial" Michael Ledeen! They meant lying, criminal hack, ... they should have said that.
The MSM continues to relay the latest White House propaganda as if it's genuine news because the MSM are a shameless bunch of pro-imperialist liars themselves.
They enjoy cocktails with these murderers after all.
This is all a crude, shameless con-job.
The "Fix in '06" for the Bush Administration and Republican Party will be Iran. Sabre-rattling, backed by a few surgical air strikes, will be their main chance to avoid losses in the November mid-term elections.
Playing up an external threat to shore up domestic support hardly is a novel idea, but it seems to work every time. Can anyone suggest any other strategy that would rally the electorate behind the GOP in the time available?
Raw Story link fixed. Thanks, skdadl.
This of course assumes that the documents attributed to al-Zarqawi are anything more than forgeries planted for propaganda purposes.
And until we get an answer to this, we can't believe anything.
Bi-Guy:
Once again you have demonstrated what a complete idiot you are...

Bruce:
That looks an awful lot like a drive-by smear. Please don't.
Apologies pogge...I was more than a little incensed at the venal, profane and unwarranted comments Ti-Guy directed towards Kate at SDA. But I agree, I should not have brought my baggage to your site.
Bruce
Of, for God's sakes...
SDA minion. I should have known.
